Polymorphism Study
2022
Recently, I investigated new ways to approach my work that involve technology while also exploring the fluidity of biomorphic forms. In collaboration with a computer engineer, I created digital artworks that are reminiscent of traditional paintings and prints using generative software. The digital prints and paintings made by the generative software rely on probability. Each composition consists of many forms, a background, and a palette resulting in an extensive array of shapes. From this array, the generative software selects forms at random to be placed in predetermined skeletal structures, also chosen at random from a premade list, to make up the composition. In addition, the forms, arrays of colors, palettes, and textures, are selected in a similar way by the software. However, the composition is completely random but based on weighted probability. Using a weighted probability gave me the opportunity to make a particular form more or less likely and adds to the uniqueness of each artwork. It is hoped that this will result in endless iterations of novel compositions.
