Beauty and the Travesties of Nature
2009-2010
This series was created while I was the Post MFA Artist in Residence at the University of Kansas.
Beauty and the Travesties of Nature combines printmaking, drawing, and collage to explore advancements in biology—specifically genetic engineering—and its connections to evolutionary theories, the human condition, and evolving perceptions of beauty and the grotesque. Through this work, I merge human, insect, and animal characteristics to create fictional hybrids that navigate the boundaries between childhood memory and fantastical imagination.
